Introduction
TRIZ is a set of tools used by engineers, inventors, scientists and businesses to systematically create new innovative ideas and solutions. Instead of waiting for random inspiration or using trial and error to create new ideas, TRIZ enables the user to derive breakthrough ideas and solutions on demand. TRIZ is the Russian acronym for “Teoriya Resheniya Izobreatatelskikh Zadatch” translated into English as the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving.
Created in the former Soviet Union, TRIZ researchers developed the tools of TRIZ from the study of millions of patents. Instead of trying to create breakthrough ideas by playing psychological games or brainstorming (guessing), ideas are systematically derived based on the information learned from studying how others have solved problems and innovated in the past.
